Our Rating
Our Full Review
Zirtual's story is one of the more dramatic in the virtual staffing industry. Founded in 2011, the company grew rapidly before a sudden shutdown in 2015 due to financial mismanagement, leaving hundreds of assistants and clients stranded. The company was quickly acquired by Startups.co and relaunched, and it has been operating steadily since, but the episode left lasting reputational scars.
Today's Zirtual offers a straightforward proposition: US-based virtual assistants at mid-range prices with flexible plan tiers. The Entrepreneur plan at $549 per month for 12 hours is a reasonable entry point for solopreneurs who want domestic talent without the premium pricing of BELAY or Boldly. The multi-user plans are a nice touch, allowing small teams to share an assistant's hours.
Assistant quality is decent but inconsistent. Zirtual recruits college-educated professionals, and the best of them are organized, proactive, and communicative. However, the service has experienced higher assistant turnover than more established competitors, which means clients sometimes go through the onboarding process multiple times in a year. This churn disrupts workflows and requires repeated time investments in training.
The task management platform is functional but basic. It gets the job done for assigning and tracking tasks, but it lacks the polish and features of Wing's app or the integration capabilities that power users expect. Communication happens primarily through email and the platform, with limited options for real-time messaging.
Service scope is narrower than some competitors. Zirtual focuses on classic executive assistant tasks: calendar management, email triage, travel planning, research, and expense tracking. If you need bookkeeping, social media management, or technical support, you will need to look elsewhere.
Customer support has been a persistent weakness. Multiple users have reported slow response times from the Zirtual management team when issues arise, whether related to billing, assistant performance, or account changes. For a managed service, this lack of responsive support is a significant drawback.
Zirtual can work well if you get matched with a strong assistant and your needs align with their core competencies. However, the inconsistency in both talent and support means there is more risk here than with premium alternatives. It occupies an awkward middle ground: too expensive to be a budget option but not reliable enough to command premium confidence.
